18th Symposium on Mediterranean Archaeology

SOMA2014

WrocławPOLAND / 24-26 April, 2014

The eighteenth annual meeting of theSymposium on Mediterranean Archaeology (SOMA) will be held in Wrocław-Poland on24-26 April 2014. As it has been in the past, this symposium will continue toprovide an important opportunity for scholars and researchers to come togetherand discuss their works in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Our spectrumis growing wider due to the increased importance and knowledge ofinterdisciplinary works in today’s scientific era.

Since prehistoric times the Mediterranean has been acting as a locale for interaction betweengroups inhabiting regions that are now studied mainly within the differentsub-fields of ancient studies. In recent years, however, the development ofresearch techniques and analytical models of archaeological evidence haveidentified similar historical paths that are similar if not, in some cases, common to these different areas of the ancient world from the West (Iberianpeninsula) to the East (Anatolia and Levant) from the North (Europe, Black SeaCoast) to the South (Maghreb and Egypt).

The 18th SOMA meeting welcomespresentations related to the above-mentioned topics and also arguments likesea, trade, colonization and piracy using archaeological data collected withincontexts located within the Mediterranean basin and the Ancient Near Easternarea, chronologically ranging from Prehistoric to Medieval periods.
